Premiered in 2018 under the title insofar as, in Berlin at HKW, as part of Forecast festival, Islands is an ongoing series of radio performances that responds to site-specific environments.
Using self-built radio transmitters with microphones, following Tetsuo Kogawa’s designs, the performances involve two handheld FM radio/speakers that transmit feedback created by placing them close to the microphone. Often paired with neon, the performance becomes a hyperlocal audiovisual transmission, for the hands.
The project is named after one of Tetsuo Kogawa’s quotes that states that our ”hands are the last islands of our body”.
