Islands, 2018 - ongoing

FM transmitter (Tetsuo Kogawa’s design), ELF radio,  neon light, hand-held radios.

Ongoing performance series of FM-radio hyperlocal transmissions paired with neon interference.

Premiered in 2018 under the title insofar as, in Berlin at HKW, as part of Forecast festival, Islands is an ongoing series of radio performances that responds to site-specific environments.

Using self-built radio transmitters with microphones, following Tetsuo Kogawa’s designs, the performances involve two handheld FM radio/speakers that transmit feedback created by placing them close to the microphone. Often paired with neon, the performance becomes a hyperlocal audiovisual transmission, for the hands.

The project is named after one of Tetsuo Kogawa’s quotes that states that our ”hands are the last islands of our body”.
